We want to work together because we have a similar passion about enabling older people to have access to creativity and work with artists in care settings and we feel that we have lots to learn from each other. By developing this network we will be able to deliver better projects in local communities.
NowHere! reads as nowhere, the non-place to which people with dementia are relegated. NowHere! calls for the immediacy of a space for artists who work with people with dementia to create the here and now.
Art in dementia care is a rapidly evolving field. If art continues to be absorbed by the medical model it will not achieve its potential. There is growing recognition that the arts are beneficial for people with dementia, but artists haven’t had the opportunity to reflect on how this work impacts their own arts practice. The use of art for people with dementia is often seen within the “medical model” and we want the opportunity to enable artists to reflect, explore and develop an “artistic model”.
The NowHere! project will develop a creative space for artists’ working with people with dementia in care homes. It will provide the opportunity to share practice, reflect and learn from each other. It will bring artists together, from both organisations, which have the same mission but work in areas with different cultural backgrounds.
Three UK and three Dutch artists from different disciplines will be invited to participate. They are freelancers with experience of working in care settings with people with dementia. They will benefit by having funded time to reflect and examine their practice and connect with artists in the partner country. They will learn about commonalities in their practices and culturally specific issues to attend to.
Our aim is to identify and connect with other organisations, projects, artists who work in the field of dementia care.
Nowhere is supported by Tandem Community and The University Of Amsterdam and takes part in meetings, placements and collaboration project in different countrys.
